JT, my homeboy, you decide to flush that article yet there are thousands of articles that are much worse? This is why all ED mods are complete homosexual faggots that jerk themselves off because they're mods on ED. I don't know. How about a field test? — Preceding comment added by Mike the Great (talkcontribs), 22:09, 21 January 2012 CST 04:09, 21 January 2012 UTC

I don't think that would show the date/time format change, would it? I'm CST -06:00. Mike the Græt (Talk) 05:21, 22 January 2012 (CET)
Looks neat. Would it still work for people who don't put in the date if they're not used to it? I don't want to mess up people who don't like to put the date in, but being able to put it in while adding the person's name is probably not that much work (since people check the history to see who added the comment, they'd see it anyway) and is really valuable, so the change you made looks pretty awesome JT. Ty-cmeal 20:00, 22 January 2012 (CET)
But it seems that for whatever reason, everything here's in CET which would be +01:00. I guess I should use that. It is worth noting though that people interested in using the time feature would have to calculate the time deficit/surplus and mark the time accordinglyMike the Græt (Talk) 21:28, 22 January 2012 (CET)
One issue here: would it be okay if I moved the "at" statement:
{{#if:{{{2|}}}|,|.}}''' {{#if:{{{2|}}}|at {{{2|}}}|}}
to right after the first "by" part for the username and prior to the "is to much of a fucking retard, it's four tildes damnit" thing? Since four tildes actually add the date too, plus it keeps them together much like standard posting. I'm pretty sure I'd know how to do it, but thought I should run it by you in case you wanted to make sure I didn't mess it up. Or maybe the time should go first so that the "username is retard" sentence still flows properly? Ty-cmeal 02:11, 23 January 2012 (CET)

Hi how does this work?  — Preceding comment added by Tyciol (talkcontribs), 11:18pm on a Sunday night in January

Your change is grammatically incorrect. The previous version was fine and didn't leave a sentence fragment. If anything it should be a comma, an then it would still be a run-on. I already thought about that, and it creates a very difficult to follow flow. The preceding was added by this person at this time, who was (here we're going back to an idea [the signer] that was already visited, and that breaks up the whole thing, even if done within grammatical bounds. Jud had it fine the first time. Time's ALWAYS at the end. Exibit A: Mike the Græt (Talk) 05:25, 23 January 2012 (CET)

References

Since you seem adept at coding, I was wondering if you knew how we could mimic how Wikipedia detects reference brackets around URLs that could be cited at the bottom? I added which was all it took on Wiki but it doesn't appear to work here. That or perhaps set up a Template:References? I notice that in many cases, users like to link to external links throughout articles on ED. I admit it is a pain when a link applies to a specific section to have to list it at the bottom. I was thinking if we could get refs set up, this would let us do that, while still having a complete list of ELs at the bottom (with ref subsection) which might also help to prevent duplication or when using named references to support multiple things written. Plus it just helps to parody Wikipedia even further and give dat sense of legitimacy.

Also would it be okay if I edited your archives by merging 2nd July into 1st July and put the 2 #December 2011 entries on this page into December? Ty-cmeal 20:18, 22 January 2012 (CET)

Deleted Wikipedia pages

The deletionists at TOW are running rampant and deleting quality content (when they could simply redirect it and keep the history). I think they are trying to cover everything up. Like this, I so remember that! Anyway see here, Think of Wikipe got deleted. Can Wikipedia moderators like yourself/Meep view deleted things like that? Like just to get the source code? Hey, I got an idea for this, instead of pain series stuff which would be caught immediately and likely removed, rather lets be a bit more subtle about it (it's your call ultimately,) but I was thinking doing an inline forum replacement of the image with something that appears to be his post, would lend itself to much more lullz. This isn't the actual post I'm suggesting, it was just a test to see fonts / margin spacing, and should be about right (I overlaid it on an image of the forums to see how the text of the image lined up when used to replace the one he hotlinked)

  • Ah, you're probably right. He'd already reverted it, before I did that, I added my edit up about 2 hours after the revert, I guess you'd gone to bed by then. So figured I'd go ahead and upload mine. Also, If you go check the thread now, my edit is still up as the cache will keep it up for about 30m-1hr I guess. It actually doesn't look bad, you can barely tell (a bit of minor jpeg artefacting) it's an image and not him talking beneath the hotlinked original I appended my fake post to. Had this thread been more active, it'd be a very interesting tactic I think.
  • though, I did use the wrong font...derp. Lorentz

The description field really, really IS necessary. Pastebin links are always random ASCII, so the lack of the description parameter should indicate the user has made a mistake and not display the id itself. There's no use in putting something like Q9VwEMfk on a page. That's the reason why the usage page has been made so idiot-proof.

Oh, and the way you wrote it really bugs me. It could very well be done without ParserFunctions like this: {{{2|{{{1}}}}}}. Why resort to conditional statements, when you can leave this shit to plain ol' MediaWiki? --Gseed 17:29, 21 April 2012 (EDT)

This is the first I've seen "commons:" used, good to note. About "metawikipedia:" though. Isn't it actually Wikimedia Meta? Am thinking maybe shorten to MetaWiki or WikiMeta or maybe just Meta? BTW do you know how these site redirecty things work? Can anyone make them or only ED mods? Tymec 23:36, 24 April 2012 (EDT)

  • True enough, but it seems to have expanded beyond its Wikipedia origins to have scope over the new wikipedia-like projects that spun off from it (wiktionary, commons, etc). So shortening to meta seems useful, especially for character conservation. Tymec 23:57, 24 April 2012 (EDT)

Trying to salvage some lulz from TV Tropes, wondering if you could help

I've been saving pictures and web pages (in .txt format for ease of editing on any OS) from TV Tropes that are in danger of getting hosed thanks to this pedo/porn hunt BS their moderating Gestapo have started, and since I'm a crappy HTML coder, I was wondering if I provided a massive zip file with all the stuff I saved, could you or someone you know who is good at HTML editing help me put it up here on ED looking like it did on TV Tropes.

I ask because I'm a disgruntled troper who is pissed as hell the mods are fucking around with most of the shit that was vaguely entertaining, and I'm trying to salvage as much as possible (especially some of the lulzier material) and preserve before it gets hosed permanently.

If you would be willing to help, let me know RSVP. Rms 15:32, 28 April 2012 (EDT)

New Wikimedia ToU

Regarding http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/New_Terms_of_use/en any input on this? Of note:

  • tools against harassment, threats, stalking, vandalism, and other long- term issues: The terms make clear that such acts are prohibited.
  • updated agreement raises the possibility of a global ban for extreme cross-wiki violations, a need that has been expressed from a number of community members.

Wikipediocracy

Do you think they may at some point become notable enough to get an article like WR has?

I've been planning to write about the schism at Wikipedia Review that resulted in Wikipediocracy's creation, but I have some Wikipedia-related things to take care of first.

That sounds like it would be a great foundation, or else an essay that would be good to link on a new stub article when it gets done. What sucks is since they banned my IP, I can't even view the board... at least until I reset my router again or relearn the onion router. That's what I get for being honest I guess. When guys unjustly ban people who haven't crossed them, they're pretty much begging for people to go undercover. Tymec 01:20, 17 May 2012 (EDT)
