Metaverses
A Metaverse is an open-source Virtual reality network for basement-dwellers with no life to socialize with another basement-dwellers and earn worthless money to buy fake houses, clothing, pets, etc. It is a place intended only for the saddest netizens; and for those who want to "live" a life they only dream they could have, in a virtual world. They will spend most of their time to distract you from the fact everything is meaningless and you don't have a life. This place doesn't not exist.
The term Metaverse has since been raeped by large corporations to sell you more products to consume. The Metaverse can literally mean anything that is "virtual", be they MMORPG, websites, virtual concerts, games, etc. A lot of the time it is linked to NFTs just in order to help get the crypto-bros interested, as nobody else gives a shit.
It's also been understood that the Metaverse is a way for The Man to control your daily life Think about it: Big Tech gets to take data-mine all of your personal info, and is thus able to control anything you do. The Metaverse was just designed as a way for companies to generate more money to themselves. The lower class and upper class will now be even more bigger, with crypto-bros rigging the system to become richer than Jeff Bezos.
Horizon Worlds
In 2019 Mark Zuckerberg launched Virtual Horizons, a rip-off of Second Life made by Meta Inc. and for socializing with others with Dreamcast graphics. Since it looked like shit, nobody even cared about it.
But in 2021, with Metaverse being thrown around everywhere as a meaningless buzzword, Zuckerberg came to the realization that not only he can get people interested by pretending it's a Metaverse, but now he can have control over the daily lives of people.
He changed his company's name from Failbook to Meta, and showed the world what he perceives as the future where he could invade everyone's privacy and sell advertisements for things that make jewgold, while being able to do whatever he wants with his crappy vidya-game. But despite Zuckerberg's aspirations, still nobody else gave a shit, or even knew what the fuck Virtual Horizons was.
As of 2023, nobody is playing Horizon Worlds and people are using their VR headests for porn and vidya and Meta had wasted $700 million on this metaverse shit.
